Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has called for prayers over the ordeals of Senator Ike Ekweremadu who is currently detained in the United Kingdom over alleged organ harvest and is facing other challenges at home. Ugwuanyi asked an audience to commit what Sen. Ekweremadu is going through into the hands of God.

He spoke when the leaders and members of Oganiru Enugu, a support group of the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, formally collapsed Ekweremadu’s political structure to begin to support Dr. Peter Mbah’s governorship bid as directed by their patron (Sen. Ekweremadu).

The governor enjoined members of the group and others to book Mass for the Senator and his family every week and equally embark on private prayers for him (Ekweremadu) to overcome his challenges.

He stressed that it is pertinent to show love to someone when he or she is not around for one reason or the other.

He urged members of the group to have a strong mind “for this too will pass away.”

The governor commended the National President of Ndi Oganiru Enugu, Engr. Jude Asogwa and other members of the Executive Council for their loyalty to Sen. Ekweremadu and informed members of the group that his administration will keep them abreast of the development in London, reassuring them that “this too will pass away”.

Ugwuanyi promised that the group will be stronger in future, maintaining that nobody will be denied his or her rights.

He, therefore, expressed confidence that “by God’s grace, we will join hands to make sure that all our candidates win in Enugu State.”

In his address, the National President of Ndi Oganiru Enugu, Engr. Asogwa, disclosed that the event was to reaffirm the understanding and commitment that Sen. Ekweremadu and Dr. Mbah had, and to fulfill the directive by their patron (Ekweremadu) “that we should not only work for the election of Dr. Peter Mbah of the PDP, but also own the project and give it all that we have.”

At the event, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, also commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the quality leadership, peace and security the state has enjoyed under his PDP-led administration.

Dr. Mbah said that the peace and security Gov. Ugwuanyi has entrenched in Enugu State in the last seven and half years brought extensive infrastructural development to the state.

The PDP governorship candidate pointed out that it is a milestone achievement that the public and civil servants in Enugu State receive their emoluments as and when due, adding that the workers have also enjoyed industrial harmony with the present administration in the state.

Dr. Mbah who described Gov. Ugwuanyi as “a greater leader”, pointed out that the governor has eagle eyes which enable him to identify and see beyond anyone else, saying: “You (Ugwuanyi) understand and know your constituency much better than anyone else.”

Stressing that Gov. Ugwuanyi is the leader of the PDP in Enugu State and the South East geo-political zone, the PDP governorship candidate maintained that the governor has really shown true leadership which has ensured that “we are still and remain one political family”.

Dr. Mbah told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “we are here today because of your leadership qualities”, adding: “We are also here today to show that we still and will remain one political family and we have come together to put that seal and to say to you that we are under your leadership at all times as PDP members.

“Your Excellency, why today is very symbolic is that the people of Oganiru Enugu State have come to say that we are not outsiders; we are part and parcel of our great party, the PDP; we will not want to be treated as outsiders.”

Assuring that there will be no discrimination against the members of Oganiru Enugu, both during the electioneering and “when by the grace of God we take over the Lion Building,” the PDP guber candidate reminded the group of the task ahead in working together to ensure landslide victory for the PDP come February and March 2023.

Dr. Mbah, therefore, thanked the leadership of Ndi Oganiru Enugu for the bold step and demonstration of character, reiterating that “there will be no discrimination against you.”

The PDP guber candidate who expressed concern over the travail of Sen. Ekweremadu in London, said that the prayers and thoughts of members of the PDP family are with the Senator and his family, “and with faith, we pray that in no distant time, he is going to join us in the party.”

Restating Gov. Ugwuanyi’s leadership position in the state, Dr. Mbah further said: “Your Excellency, I am sure that this is an event for you. I am only here just to assure you that we have one big family under your leadership and what this symbolises is that we are all under your leadership and we are going to continue to be under your leadership because that marks the great success and peace we have recorded in Enugu as a PDP state.”
