The Lagos State government has announced the ban on the use of foam disposable takeaway packs (Styrofoam) and other single-use plastics in the state.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, announced the ban in a post on Sunday afternoon.

Mr Wahab disclosed that the ban on the use of non-biodegradable materials in the metropolis is with immediate effect.

He explained that the action was taken by the state government because of the mayhem the packaging items were causing in the state, especially when it rains.

“Following the menace which single-use plastics especially non-biodegradable Styrofoam are causing on the environment, the Lagos State government, through the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, is hereby announcing a ban on the usage and distribution of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics in the state with immediate effect,” the Commissioner announced.
