Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 22-year-old Olamide Suleiman during a routine stop-and-search operation in Aguda, leading to the recovery of firearms, suspected cannabis and the launch of a wider investigation into an alleged criminal network.
The suspect was intercepted by police officers along Adetola Road in the Aguda area during a routine security operation.

A search of Olamide Suleiman reportedly uncovered dry leaves suspected to be cannabis, while a further search of a bag in the suspect’s possession led to the recovery of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, Olamide Suleiman allegedly told investigators during interrogation that the recovered pistol belonged to a man identified as Emir, who was staying at a hotel in Aguda.
Acting on the information, police operatives immediately raided the hotel. A search of the room allegedly occupied by Emir resulted in the recovery of a double-barrel gun.
The principal suspect, however, escaped before officers arrived at the hotel. Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other individuals believed to be connected to the alleged criminal group.
The arrest has highlighted the role of routine stop-and-search operations in disrupting suspected criminal activities before they escalate into more serious offences.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism during the operation, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling criminality across the state.
“The Command remains resolute in its determination to rid Lagos State of criminal elements. We urge residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information that will aid crime prevention and detection,” the Commissioner said.
The latest recovery comes as the Lagos State Police Command continues to intensify intelligence-led operations, targeted raids and patrols aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms and violent crime across the state.
Police investigations remain ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ activities and identify other possible members of the alleged criminal network.

The command also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through its designated emergency lines, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to improving public safety.
