Leo Scholarship Initiative by Blackstreet Foundation empowers 10 Afrograms students to complete NECO exams, offering hope, equity and academic success.

The Blackstreet Foundation, through its LEO Scholarship Initiative, has enabled ten outstanding students from African Church Grammar School (Afrograms), Ita Eko, Abeokuta, to successfully complete their 2025 NECO examinations.

The milestone, reached on 25 June 2025, was made possible after the Foundation stepped in to cover the full cost of the students’ registration fees.

The intervention followed the discovery that, despite their strong academic promise, the students were at risk of missing out on the national exams due to financial constraints.

The students, drawn from various neighbourhoods in Abeokuta, include Rahmot, a focused science student from Farage in Ibode Olude; Mary, an intelligent and driven girl from Araromi in Obada Oko; Elizabeth, described as bright and determined, from 14 Alaafin Compound; and Gloria, who is passionate about learning and resides at Obajio Company in Ita Eko.

Also among the beneficiaries is Omotanwa, noted for her ambition and resilience, from Mango in Idi Aba; Selim, a promising science student from Okebode in Isapon; Feridah, a hardworking and curious learner from Laderin Housing Estate; and Racheal, known for her energetic spirit and dreams, based in Ita Oshin.

The list is completed by Funke, a smart and resourceful student from Kuto; and Favour, a goal-oriented science student who lives in Sabo.

The initiative is the brainchild of Canada-based Nigerian philanthropist, Olanrewaju Ojelabi, fondly known as Leo.

Through the Blackstreet Foundation, he has continued to support education-focused interventions aimed at unlocking the potential of underserved young Nigerians.

Teachers, alumni, and staff of Afrograms were instrumental in identifying and supporting the ten beneficiaries throughout the process.

Their collaborative effort with the Foundation ensured that each student received not just financial support, but also the encouragement needed to succeed.

Speaking on the achievement, the Foundation congratulated the students and reaffirmed its belief in their future.

“This success is just the beginning,” the Foundation noted in a statement.
