The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has promised N20m reward for players and officials of Rivers United, if they will beat fellow Nigeria Professional Football League side, Enyimba FC in the first leg of the second Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup this Sunday in Aba.

The governor made the pledge yesterday at the Government House, Port Harcourt where he presented two brand new buses to Rivers United and Rivers Angels Football club.

While Rivers United got a state-of-the-art luxurious bus, fitted with numerous gadgets, Rivers Angels got a 30-seater coaster bus, in addition to the luxurious bus that has been approved for them.

Wike charged Rivers United to go ahead and win the CAF Confederation Cup, assuring the players that their lives would change after the victory.

He, also, tasked Rivers Angels to qualify for CAF Women Champions League and watch how their lives would change tremendously.

The governor went further to motivate both teams by promising them N10m for every away victory in their quest to win all available laurels in the continent and local leagues.

The Rivers United football club supporters were not left out of the governor’s magnanimity as he donated a coaster bus to them.

While stating that sports can serve as a catalyst for development, Wike commended both teams for bringing a positive image to the state.

On their part, the Rivers State Commissioner of Sports, Boma Iyaye and president of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Honour Sirawoo commended Governor Wike’s vision and drive for sports development.

Iyaye stated that the best way for the teams to reciprocate the gesture of the governor is to win all trophies on the local and international scene.
