Salome, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and an employee of Nicon Insurance in Abuja, was reportedly killed after visiting Ajayi’s residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area.
Ajayi was taken into custody by the Nasarawa State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lafia on Tuesday, after the grisly crime came to light.
During a public parade at the police headquarters, authorities displayed the alleged murder weapons, including a knife and machetes, further shocking the community.
The horrific details of the incident surfaced when Ajayi, a gospel singer, was apprehended by churchgoers in Orozo, Abuja.
Church members became suspicious when Ajayi was seen carrying a sack, and upon investigation, they discovered the severed head of a woman. The head, which had recently been braided in a popular “million braids” style, was later identified as Salome’s.
According to church member Umaru Caleb, who shared the details on Facebook, the discovery sent shockwaves through the congregation.
Ajayi, visibly shaken, was confronted by the worshippers and beaten by the mob before being handed over to the police.
During questioning, Ajayi admitted to the crime in an exclusive interview with Channels TV. He explained that the killing was not premeditated but was triggered by frustrations over their relationship.
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time, it’s not something I planned. It happened on that day,” he confessed. He further explained that he had discovered her chats with other men, which led to his violent outburst.
Ajayi, who showed no remorse for his actions, added, “I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal… that is why I don’t have any regrets because we were actually compatible.”
The victim’s elder sister, Patience Adaidu, has voiced concerns about the lack of communication from the police regarding the case.
She claimed that officers at the Orozo Police Station, where the case was initially reported, had failed to provide updates, and there were reports suggesting the case might be transferred to Keffi, Nasarawa State.

Patience also strongly denied rumours that her sister had been romantically involved with Ajayi, stating that the family had no prior knowledge of the suspect or any relationship between the two.
