The Nigeria Police Force has summoned Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), for questioning regarding allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, and other serious charges.
The summons was detailed in a letter from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, which indicates that Ajaero is implicated in a case involving Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime.
Ajaero is required to report for an interview on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction in Abuja. The letter warns that failure to comply with the invitation could lead to his arrest.
The letter states: “This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which you have been implicated. You are therefore required to report to the undersigned for an interview on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, at 10:00 hrs prompt, at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, through the Team Leader on telephone no 08035179870, in connection with the above investigation.”
The NLC has strongly criticized the government’s actions, alleging a campaign against the organization. This comes after a recent raid on the NLC headquarters by security forces, which the police claimed was aimed at apprehending an international terrorist suspect. However, the NLC has dismissed this explanation as a cover-up, citing inconsistencies in the police’s narrative.
During a press conference held in Abuja last Thursday, NLC leaders condemned the raid and demanded an apology from the government, the return of seized items, and the release of any detained individuals.
