The semi-final encounter, scheduled for November 13 in Morocco, comes after Nigeria cruised to a 4–0 victory over Benin Republic, securing their place among the four best group runners-up eligible for the play-offs.
Gabon clinched their spot by finishing second in Group F, following a 2–0 win against Burundi, while Ivory Coast topped the group with a dominant performance over Kenya.
The CAF mini-tournament will feature Nigeria, Gabon, Cameroon, and DR Congo — the top four second-placed teams from Africa’s nine qualifying groups.
The semi-final fixtures are:
- Nigeria vs Gabon
- Cameroon vs DR Congo
Both matches will be single-leg knockouts, with the two winners facing off in the final on November 16.
Winner of the final advances to the inter-confederation play-offs in March 2026, where a final World Cup ticket will be at stake.
CAF confirmed that Morocco will host the entire mini-tournament.
All matches will be played as one-off encounters:
- If tied after 90 minutes → Extra time (30 mins)
- If still level → Penalty shoot-out
Africa has already produced nine direct qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. These include:
- Cape Verde
- Ghana
- Algeria
- Egypt
- Ivory Coast
- Morocco
- Senegal
- South Africa
- Tunisia
The play-off final winner will represent Africa in the inter-confederation play-offs, offering the continent a potential tenth slot in the expanded 48-team World Cup.
Nigeria are expected to remain Africa’s highest-ranked team among the four play-off contenders when FIFA updates its rankings on October 23, setting up a clash with the lowest-ranked, Gabon.
