Obi Kwankwaso NDC move gathers pace as both leaders arrive in Abuja after ADC crisis and meet party leadership
Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Musa Kwankwaso, on Sunday arrived at the national secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Abuja, signalling a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The Obi Kwankwaso NDC move drew cheers from supporters as both leaders, who were presidential candidates in the 2023 election, were received by party officials and members at the venue.
Sources at the meeting confirmed that the two politicians, who had previously aligned with the African Democratic Congress, are now engaging with the NDC leadership following internal disputes within the ADC.
In attendance at the meeting were the NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, and the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, who are hosting discussions with the visiting leaders.
The development follows a leadership crisis within the ADC, which was recently escalated to the courts after a directive linked to the Supreme Court of Nigeria referred the matter to the Federal High Court.
The uncertainty surrounding the party’s structure prompted both politicians to reconsider their positions.
While both leaders have confirmed ongoing talks with the NDC, Peter Obi has made clear that his involvement with the ADC has ended.
Musa Kwankwaso, however, has not formally declared his next move, asking supporters to await further direction.
The Obi Kwankwaso NDC move comes after both politicians finished third and fourth respectively in the 2023 presidential election, where they were part of a broader opposition coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

Observers say the high-profile engagement could reshape opposition dynamics ahead of future elections, as political actors continue to realign in response to internal party disputes and shifting alliances.
