Ondo election: PDP says Ajayi’s defection a sign of desperation

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that the defection of Agboola Ajayi from the party on Monday, August 10, is a sign of desperation on the deputy governor’s political journey.

In a statement released Kennedy lkantu Peretei who is the party’s publicity secretary, PDP said Agboola’s defection will not have any effect on the coming election.

PDP stated that though it has not received the official letter of Ajayi’s resignation, it will continue to wish the unsettled deputy governor well in his political journey.

PDP accused Ajayi of showing desperation to govern the state and further added that his exit will not diminish the acceptability of the party in Ondo state.

The opposition party also berated the embattled deputy governor for abusing the honour and privilege given to him.

“Agboola Ajayi joined our party on 22nd June 2020 and participated at the Governorship Primaries having received waiver from the National Secretariat of the Party.

“He has abused the welcome and privilege accorded him by our party supporters during his brief stay in the party.

“He also proved that he is desperate to become the Governor of Ondo State. In the days to come, it will dawn on him that, he has squandered whatever was remaining in his goodwill with this decision,” party of the statement read.

We recalled that Ajayi dumped the PDP following his failure to clinch the party’s governorship ticket.

His resignation came less than fifty days after leaving All Progressives Congress (APC) in what climaxed the political feud between him and his principal Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Ajayi will now contest the state guber election on the platform of the Zenith Labour Party(ZLP) having being cleared by the national executive committee of the ZLP to contest the election.

Speaking through his media aide Allen Sowore, Ajayi assured his followers of victory and urged them to stay focused and committed.
