Two students die at Ondo hotel swimming pool during freshers’ party, sparking police investigation into the tragedy
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two university students during a freshers’ party at a hotel in Akungba-Akoko.

The victims, identified as 22-year-old Oludere Opeyemi and 19-year-old Adegbola Blessing, reportedly lost their lives in the hotel’s swimming pool.
The incident was first reported on January 29, 2026, according to Abayomi Jimoh, the police spokesperson.
Jimoh explained that the unconscious body of Oludere Opeyemi was discovered in the pool in the evening.
“He was rescued by the pool manager and administered first aid before regaining consciousness. He was later taken home by his friends,” Jimoh said.
However, in the early hours of January 30, 2026, Oludere Opeyemi was reported dead.
Shortly after, the body of Adegbola Blessing, who was found unconscious in the pool, was also confirmed dead at the State Hospital, Ikare-Akoko.
The case has been transferred to the command’s monitoring unit for a thorough and discreet investigation.
Police operatives from the Akungba Divisional Station continue to investigate, and both the hotel manager, Ayomide Badejo, and the pool manager have been invited for questioning.
The remains of the deceased students have been deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, pending autopsy and further examination.
