Paystack suspension of CTO Ezra Olubi triggers an internal misconduct investigation after allegations involving a staff member surfaced online

Paystack suspension of co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Ezra Olubi has triggered significant public debate after the Nigerian payments company confirmed he was placed on leave pending a formal investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving a subordinate.

The claims surfaced across social media on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, prompting swift reaction from both the public and the fintech sector.

In a statement shared with TechCabal, the Stripe-owned firm said it had initiated an internal inquiry to assess the seriousness and credibility of the accusations. The company added that the suspension was a procedural step designed to ensure transparency and protect all parties while the investigation proceeds.

According to Paystack, the allegations were first amplified by online users before reaching wider attention. The startup, long celebrated for its operational standards and approach to workplace ethics, stated that it was committed to handling the matter with diligence and fairness. It emphasised that no conclusions had yet been drawn and urged the public to avoid speculation while the process unfolds.

The Paystack suspension has sparked industry-wide conversation about the need for stronger safeguards within Africa’s rapidly expanding tech ecosystem. Many observers note that as Nigerian startups evolve into multinational enterprises, issues around workplace conduct, accountability and staff protection must receive greater institutional focus.

While the outcome of the investigation remains pending, Paystack has reiterated its commitment to a safe and respectful working environment.

The company said it would share its findings once the formal process is complete, stressing that integrity and trust remain central to its operations. For now, the Paystack suspension continues to dominate discussions around corporate responsibility, leadership conduct and the evolving culture of Africa’s digital economy.
