The Peat Philips Foundation presented the 2025 Young Orators National Champion to the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos, where finalists delivered inspiring speeches and debated UK-Nigeria partnerships

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Peat Philips Foundation paid a courtesy visit to the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos and was received by the Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Simon Fields at the official residence in Lagos, to formally present the 2025 National Champion of the Young Orators Public Speaking Competition, Master Israel Bolarinwa.

During the visit, Master Bolarinwa delivered a powerful and inspiring speech on the theme of hope and its pivotal role in advancing human development.

His presentation resonated strongly with attendees and underscored the importance of youth voices in shaping national discourse.

A highlight of the visit was an engaging oracy contest between two of the competition’s top finalists — Miss Oghenetega Tota from Bowen University, Iwo, and Mr. Olalekan Ramadan Oladipupo from Lagos State University, Ojo.

The duo debated the thought-provoking topic: “How can partnerships between the UK and Nigeria drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth?” Their speeches were rich in insight and innovation, earning them a standing ovation from the audience.

The event was attended by members of the British High Commission staff in Lagos, students from the British International School, Lekki, and representatives from the Peat Philips Foundation.

Mr. Fields extended a warm reception to the young orators, engaging them in conversation and offering thoughtful encouragement.

The courtesy visit not only showcased the exceptional talents nurtured through the Young Orators programme but also emphasized the broader impact of youth empowerment on national development.

As Master Bolarinwa and his fellow finalists demonstrated, young Nigerians possess the intellect, creativity, and confidence to contribute meaningfully to conversations that shape the country’s future.

In light of this, the Executive Director of the Peat Philips Foundation, Mr. Akinleye Olu-Philips, issued a call to action for corporate organizations in Nigeria.

He urged them to actively support youth development initiatives that foster critical thinking, articulate expression, and civic engagement.

According to him, “Corporate Nigeria has a vital role to play in equipping our youth with the tools they need to lead and innovate.

By investing in programmes like the Young Orators, businesses are not just fulfilling corporate social responsibility—they are building the future of Nigeria.”

As the Peat Philips Foundation continues to champion oracy and leadership among young Nigerians, it invites stakeholders from all sectors to join hands in shaping a generation that is informed, empowered, and ready to lead.
