Organizers of the upcoming nationwide protests have confirmed their intention to use Eagle Square in Abuja, despite reported resistance from the government.
Damilare Adenola, Mobilization Director of the Take It Back Movement, made this announcement during a Sunday appearance on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics.
Adenola revealed that the organization had previously submitted a request to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, seeking permission to use the venue.
However, Wike claimed during a town hall meeting on Saturday that he had only learned about the request through social media. In response, Adenola suggested that the delay could be due to bureaucratic issues or questioned the sincerity of Wike’s statement.
Adenola assured that a new letter would be sent on Monday to ensure the proper authorization for using Eagle Square. Despite potential obstacles, he stated firmly, “We are going to be at the Eagle Square on August 1st,” emphasizing that the facility is public property.
He expressed surprise at Wike’s comments, noting that the minister had suggested charges for using the venue, including rent and security fees.
