PSG reject Man city bid for Echegini

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly rejected several offers from Manchester City for Nigeria international Jennifer Echegini, with the French club determined to keep the influential midfielder despite growing interest from England.

The 25-year-old Super Falcons star is regarded as an important member of the PSG squad, according to BBC Sport, which reported on Wednesday that sources at the French club were unwilling to sanction her departure.

The development comes with Manchester City racing to strengthen their squad before Thursday’s Women’s Super League transfer deadline.

Echegini’s future has become a talking point because she has only one year remaining on her PSG contract.

Despite that situation, the French club are understood to have rejected multiple approaches from City rather than allow the Nigerian to leave.

The midfielder has been with PSG since July 2024, when she joined from Juventus on a three-year contract. PSG’s official profile confirms that she signed an agreement running until June 2027.

Her rise to the European elite has been swift.

Born in the Netherlands and raised in England, Echegini developed through the English youth system before moving to the United States, where she starred for Florida State University.

She began her professional career with Juventus in January 2024 and made an immediate impression in Italy, scoring 10 goals in 16 appearances before moving to Paris six months later.

Juventus had initially signed her through June 2026.

Echegini has also established herself as an important player for Nigeria.

Her biggest international moment came at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where she scored the winning goal against the hosts in the final as the Super Falcons secured a record-extending 10th continental title.

BBC Sport also highlighted her decisive contribution to Nigeria’s triumph.

That growing reputation has now attracted Manchester City, who are seeking additional attacking and midfield options ahead of the new WSL campaign.

City’s interest has intensified after the club confirmed that experienced forward and midfielder Vivianne Miedema will miss the beginning of the season with a knee injury.

The potential absence has increased the pressure on City to strengthen before the transfer window closes.

For PSG, however, Echegini’s importance appears to outweigh the opportunity to cash in on a player approaching the final year of her current deal.

The French side are also preparing for a crucial Women’s Champions League third-round qualifying tie against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, making the timing of City’s approach particularly significant.

Echegini is expected to remain part of PSG’s plans for the fixture, although the transfer situation could continue to develop before Thursday’s deadline.

The midfielder’s future had already attracted attention in France earlier in the summer, with reports suggesting she had not agreed to an extension beyond her existing PSG contract.

Those reports indicated that the club could eventually face a choice between selling her for a fee or risking losing her for nothing when her contract expires.

For now, PSG appear determined to resist Manchester City’s advances.

The decision underlines how highly Echegini is regarded in Paris and reflects the value of a player whose technical ability, attacking movement and versatility have made her increasingly important for both club and country.

With the transfer deadline approaching, City may yet return with another proposal.

But unless PSG change their position, the Super Falcons midfielder looks set to remain in the French capital for the immediate future.
