Nigerian table tennis star Quadri Aruna will lead Amiens Sport Tennis de Table into their French Pro B season opener against Lille Métropole TT on Tuesday, as the club begins its latest push for promotion to the top division.

The match is scheduled for 7pm at the Albéric-Labaume Gymnasium in Amiens, northern France, with Aruna set to make his competitive debut for the club in the 2026/27 Pro B campaign.

Aruna joined Amiens in May after the club narrowly missed promotion last season. Amiens reached the Pro B semi-finals but lost the second leg against Chartres in April, ending its hopes of moving into Pro A.

The Nigerian is expected to play a leading role in the club’s promotion campaign, having been listed as Amiens’ highest-rated player. The club’s official squad profile lists him at No. 16 with 4,273 points.

Amiens have strengthened their squad ahead of the new campaign, with Aruna joined by experienced players including Austria’s Robert Gardos, Portugal’s João Monteiro, South Korea’s Cho Seungmin and Frenchman Denis Dorcescu.

The French Table Tennis Federation described Amiens’ ambition for the new season as a clear push towards Pro A, following the disappointment of last season’s failed promotion bid. The club’s recruitment of Aruna and Cho was identified as part of that effort.

For Aruna, the move also represents an opportunity to revive his club career while bringing his experience at the highest level to a team seeking promotion.

The 37-year-old has considerable experience in French table tennis and remains one of Africa’s leading players. His addition gives Amiens an experienced international figure around whom the club can build its campaign.

Amiens will face Lille as one of 12 teams competing in the 2026/27 French Pro B men’s championship. The competition is the second tier of French men’s team table tennis, with promotion to Pro A the principal objective for the leading sides.

The opening fixture will therefore provide Aruna and his new teammates with their first opportunity to begin what the club hopes will be a successful campaign and ultimately secure a return to the French top flight.
