Renowned Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has shared his thoughts on the recent BBC documentary that implicated the late Prophet TB Joshua in allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse. In a video statement, Seun Kuti addressed the broader issue of pastors and their behavior within religious settings.
Seun Kuti asserted that TB Joshua was not unique in his alleged misconduct and urged churchgoers not to deceive themselves into thinking that other pastors are exempt from similar behavior. He claimed that many men of the cloth establish churches primarily to engage in inappropriate relationships with female members.
Drawing a comparison with his late father, Fela Kuti, Seun stated that Fela openly embraced his sexual desires and did not hide behind a façade of holiness. He criticized pastors who, in his view, engage in sexual activities while preaching against such behavior.
“Why you men are wicked is because you want to f**k and still be claiming sainthood,” Seun expressed, addressing the perceived hypocrisy among certain religious leaders.
About the alleged miracles performed by TB Joshua, Seun Kuti disputed their authenticity, asserting that no pastor in the country has ever genuinely performed a miracle. He questioned the credibility of such claims and suggested that believers should not fall for what he termed “TBJing.”
Seun Kuti concluded by stating that the term “TBJed” should be used to define the abuse and rape of women within religious contexts. His comments have sparked discussions on the role of transparency and accountability within religious institutions, prompting further scrutiny of the actions of spiritual leaders.
