Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a kidnapped woman in Kebbi State after foiling a planned ransom payment to her abductors in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.

The woman, who was reportedly kidnapped from her farm last month, was rescued following credible intelligence indicating that her captors were preparing to collect ransom for her release.

The acting spokesperson for the troops, Lt Col Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

Osoba said troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the ransom exchange but encountered resistance from the terrorists as they advanced towards the location.

According to him, the troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to retreat, leaving the hostage behind.

“The engagement forced the criminals to retreat in disarray, abandoning the hostage, who was subsequently secured by our troops,” Osoba said.

He added that the victim was found unharmed and subsequently transported to reunite with her family in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.

Following the rescue, the troops reportedly conducted a thorough search along the terrorists’ withdrawal route to ensure the area was secure before returning to their base.

In a separate operation, troops also carried out routine clearance and dominance patrols across parts of Ngaski Local Government Area.

Osoba said the patrols were completed without incident and formed part of continuing efforts to restrict the movement of terrorists and other criminal elements within the area.

He assured residents that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would maintain pressure on terrorists and bandits operating in Kebbi and other parts of the country.

“We will keep the fire on everywhere the terrorists are. We will dismantle them to secure Kebbi State and Nigeria,” he said.

The military spokesman also urged residents to strengthen cooperation with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent attacks and disrupt criminal activities.

He stressed that intelligence from members of the public remained essential to the military’s efforts to protect communities and dismantle criminal networks.
