President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended all his official engagements in Lagos following tragic stampedes during food distribution campaigns in Abuja and Anambra State, which claimed several lives and left many injured.
The incidents, described by the president as avoidable, occurred in the early hours of Saturday, leaving the nation in mourning.
In a statement released on Saturday afternoon, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced that the president had cancelled his planned appearances, including his attendance at the 2024 Lagos Boat Regatta, as a mark of respect for the victims.
The president extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, pledging to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragic events.
