Toronto Police murder arrest follows the killing of a 20 year old university student, as investigators seek public assistance.
The Toronto Police Service on Thursday announced the arrest of Babatunde Afuwape, a 28 year old man, in connection with the murder of university student Shivank Avasthi, aged 20, in Toronto, Canada.

Police said the killing occurred on December 23, 2025, and the suspect was taken into custody following ongoing homicide investigations.
Toronto Police identified the deceased as Shivank Avasthi, a university student whose death has sparked widespread concern within the academic community.
The Toronto Police murder arrest was disclosed in a public statement shared on the Service’s official social media account, @TorontoPolice.
In the statement, investigators said they believe additional individuals may have interacted with the accused on the day of the incident.
Police urged members of the public with any information, no matter how minor, to come forward to assist the investigation.

Authorities said information can be provided directly to police by calling 416 808 7400.
They also encouraged anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers via @1800222TIPS.
Police described the appeal as critical, noting that even small details could prove decisive in advancing the case.
