Palm Beach International Airport officially becomes President Donald J. Trump International Airport as supporters celebrate and critics question the move
Ron DeSantis on Thursday officially renamed Palm Beach International Airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport, marking a significant milestone in efforts by supporters of Donald Trump to honour the serving US president with prominent public landmarks.

The Trump airport renaming was celebrated by Trump’s son, Eric Trump, who arrived aboard the family’s Boeing 757, popularly known as “Trump Force One”, becoming one of the first high-profile arrivals at the newly renamed airport, located a short distance from the Trump family’s Mar-a-Lago estate. Describing the occasion as memorable, Eric Trump told Fox News that his father had become closely identified with Palm Beach and the wider state of Florida.
“A beautiful day,” Eric Trump said, adding, “I don’t think there’s anybody more synonymous with Palm Beach than Donald Trump and maybe all of Florida.”
He also noted that the road leading from the airport already bears the name President Donald J. Trump Boulevard and said travellers would increasingly associate the airport with the president as its branding is rolled out.
According to officials, the airport’s identifier is transitioning from PBI to DJT, although existing booking systems will continue using the former code until administrative updates are completed.

Reaction among travellers reflected the political divisions that have often surrounded Trump.
Corporate pilot Chris Bailey welcomed the change, saying the president had “certainly done enough to warrant a name of an airport.”
Others were less enthusiastic. Doctor John Manov argued that the previous name better reflected the area’s identity, saying, “Palm Beach is a better brand. People don’t really like Donald Trump. It seems in poor taste.”
The renaming follows legislation approved by the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor DeSantis earlier this year.
The measure forms part of a broader effort to place Trump’s name on public infrastructure and institutions during his second presidential term.
Supporters have described the decision as recognition of Trump’s influence in Florida, where his Mar-a-Lago residence has served as both a personal home and political base for many years.
Critics, however, have questioned the growing use of a sitting president’s name on public institutions, noting that the United States has traditionally reserved such honours for former leaders or deceased public figures.
Some opponents have also raised concerns about the precedent set by naming major public assets after serving elected officials.
Palm Beach International Airport has long served as one of Florida’s busiest commercial airports, handling millions of passengers annually and acting as the principal gateway to Palm Beach County.
The renaming places it alongside several American airports named after political leaders, although most such facilities were dedicated after those figures had left office.

The Trump airport renaming is expected to remain a prominent political and cultural talking point as implementation continues and travellers gradually encounter the airport’s new identity.
