Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has directed the immediate issuance of appointment letters to 4,000 successful applicants in the state civil service, with their appointments taking effect from October 1, 2026.

The governor gave the directive on Friday at Government House, Uyo, after receiving the Civil Service Recruitment Report from the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Ekerebong Umoh.

Eno said the newly recruited officers are expected to assume duty on October 2, describing the recruitment exercise as one of the most transparent conducted by the state government.

“I have approved the immediate release of appointment letters to 4,000 successful applicants recruited into the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service. Appointments take effect on October 1, 2026,” the governor said.

In addition to the civil service appointments, the governor approved the recruitment of 2,000 additional teachers through the State Universal Basic Education Board to strengthen staffing in public primary schools across Akwa Ibom.

Eno commended the Civil Service Commission, the Head of Service, Mrs. Elsie Peters, Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, and members of the recruitment team for ensuring fairness and equal opportunity throughout the exercise.

Presenting the report, Umoh disclosed that more than 36,000 applicants registered for the recruitment, while 12,000 candidates qualified for the first stage of interviews after meeting the initial requirements. She added that only candidates who scored 50 per cent and above in the Computer-Based Test proceeded to the oral interview before the final selection.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating employment opportunities for qualified Akwa Ibom residents, saying merit and transparency would continue to guide public service recruitment in the state.
