Led by Professor Abraham Osinubi, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, the team visited the Speaker on Thursday to commend her emergence as the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.

“Your election is not just a personal victory; it is a triumph for vision, integrity, and commitment to the greater good,” Osinubi stated.
He highlighted Lagos’s unique position as a hub of innovation and leadership, expressing confidence that the Speaker’s stewardship would drive transformative policies.
Professor Osinubi relayed the enthusiasm of the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, who celebrated Meranda’s achievement as a milestone for the institution.
“As you assume this exalted office, we pray that divine wisdom, strength, and clarity of purpose guide your every decision. May your tenure be marked by unity, progress, and prosperity for all citizens of Lagos State,” he added.
He further assured the Speaker of UNILAG’s unwavering commitment to supporting leaders through academic and intellectual resources to address governance challenges effectively.
In response, Speaker Meranda expressed her gratitude for the visit, acknowledging it as both an encouragement and a challenge to exceed expectations in governance.
“I will definitely make you proud by the special grace of God. I will work to ensure that you see me as a source of pride to UNILAG,” she assured.
Meranda reaffirmed her dedication to enacting life-changing laws and policies that meet the needs of Lagosians, aligning with her vision for a better Lagos.
Hon. Lanre Afinni, a lawmaker and UNILAG alumnus, praised the university’s impact, recalling its role in national development.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, UNILAG students produced portable ventilators that assisted Lagosians. For all that you have been doing for us, we say thank you,” Afinni remarked.
The visit reinforces UNILAG’s commitment to fostering visionary leadership in Lagos, ensuring collaborative efforts between academia and governance for the progress of the state.
