Yahaya Bello cleared for APC primary amid rising tension in Kogi

Yahaya Bello has been cleared by APC to contest the Kogi Central senatorial primary, ending speculation over his eligibility

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress to participate in the party’s senatorial primary for Kogi Central, bringing an end to days of speculation over his eligibility.

The development places Bello among 17 aspirants cleared to contest across Kogi Central, West and East ahead of the APC primary scheduled for Monday.

Two other contestants are expected to battle in the Kogi Central district alongside Bello, including APC Diaspora Secretary Momoh Obaro and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke.

Party officials confirmed that all cleared aspirants successfully passed the screening process, despite earlier rumours suggesting possible complications around Bello’s participation.

The confirmation has eased internal tension within party circles, where discussions had intensified over the former governor’s political return to the ballot.

Stakeholders in Kogi Central described the clearance as a significant boost to the race, noting that Bello’s entry has already heightened political activity across the district.

Supporters of the former governor have reportedly begun mobilising ahead of the primary, which is expected to draw strong attention due to the profile of contestants involved.

The APC primary will determine the party’s candidate for the Kogi Central senatorial election, where the winner is expected to face Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party in the general election.

Party officials say the exercise will be conducted in line with established electoral guidelines to ensure a credible outcome.
