Davido joins Accord Party, following Governor Ademola Adeleke, to collect his membership card in Osogbo ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has officially announced his decision to join the Accord Party, following the political footsteps of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Davido revealed his plan on his verified X handle on Tuesday, stating that he would be in Osogbo on Wednesday to collect his membership card at Imole House.

“I Will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO Tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY,” he wrote.

The development comes two weeks after Governor Adeleke unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

The governor resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on December 1, 2025, after submitting his resignation letter on November 4.

He cited the national leadership crisis within the PDP as a key factor in his decision.

“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely November 6th, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026, after weeks of consultation with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” Governor Adeleke said during the unveiling.

He added that the party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ welfare.

Davido had previously reacted to his uncle’s defection on social media, reposting the announcement with the caption, “Jeje…,” signalling his support.

Political observers have noted that the singer’s formal membership in the Accord Party underscores the growing intersection between celebrity influence and political engagement in Nigeria.

The singer’s upcoming visit to collect his membership card has generated significant attention on social media, highlighting the role of high-profile personalities in shaping political discourse ahead of the 2026 elections.
