The tragic October 1 boat crash in Niger State has led to the recovery of 42 bodies from the river in the Gbajibo community.

Abdullahi Baba-Arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), announced that rescue and search operations are ongoing, with six more bodies recovered between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
The wooden boat, which capsized while carrying over 300 passengers, was on its way to a Maulud celebration in the Gbajibo community.
Many of the passengers were women and children from the Mundi community, which has been devastated by the accident. More than 150 people are still missing.

NSEMA is coordinating search and rescue efforts in collaboration with local government bodies, community volunteers, and brave local divers.
Baba-Arah stated that the rescue teams will continue to search for more survivors and recover bodies, promising to keep the public updated on the situation.
