In response to widespread criticism from concerned citizens on social media, Governor Dapo Abiodun has pledged to repair 120 roads across 20 local government areas in Ogun State.

Residents have long suffered due to deteriorating road conditions, severely impacting both commercial and private commuting.

Ogun State, which shares multiple border communities with Lagos State, has struggled with poor road infrastructure, contrasting with Lagos’ well-maintained connecting roads.

The communities near Lagos are particularly affected, but the issue extends to major roads within the state, including those in the capital, Abeokuta.

Discontented by the state of the roads, Nigerians, especially residents of the affected areas, have intensified their demands for government action.

The social media campaign, led by user Hauwa Allahbura, under the hashtag #Dapofixogunroads, has brought significant attention to the issue, with many sharing photos and videos of the dilapidated roads.

In response, the Ogun State government claimed that many of the problematic roads are under federal management and highlighted several completed road projects by the Abiodun administration. However, the campaigners were not satisfied and continued to pressure the state government.

On July 3, 2024, Commissioner of Works, Engr Ade Akinsanya, announced that the Abiodun administration had initiated extensive road rehabilitation and construction efforts across the state. The rehabilitation will prioritize roads based on funding availability and their economic importance.

Stakeholders, including royal fathers, lawmakers, local government chairmen, community leaders, and religious leaders, were asked to identify critical roads in need of immediate attention.

The state has already begun work on some roads, with contractors set to commence work on the remaining projects soon.

Additionally, Governor Abiodun has secured cooperation from the Federal Government for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of 14 more roads. These roads include:
