[dropcap]A[/dropcap] Nigerian lawyer, Michaelson L. Hon, Esq., has accused the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, of attempting to wrongfully imprison an innocent man, Oluwadamilola Daniel Oluwawemimo.
In a series of statements shared on his X handle, Michaelson detailed the troubling events leading up to his client’s arrest and subsequent release.

About a week ago, a smear campaign was ignited by some women’s rights activists, accusing Damilola of murdering his wife and fleeing.
Today, according to the lawyer, the autopsy results have confirmed that the immediate cause of her death was a “Haemorrhagic stroke” due to sickle cell disease, completely exonerating Damilola of any wrongdoing.
Michaelson revealed that Damilola was accused by some members of his late wife’s family without any evidence.
He was detained for two weeks, during which time he was threatened by Janet Mofehintoluwa Beckley, one of the complainants, who promised to ruin his career at ECOWAS.
And despite the autopsy results being pending, Beckley and her mother, Mrs Abiodun Omotayo, gave several interviews, even appearing on AIT to further accuse Damilola, raising questions about their true motives.
During his time in custody, Damilola suffered greatly, unable to eat or sleep due to pain and grief, and also suffered from hernia.
He endured beatings from fellow inmates, compounding his ordeal.
However, the lawyer commended the Nigerian Police, particularly the ranks at the Force CID, Abuja, for their role in granting him administrative bail and resisting pressure from the Minister of Women Affairs and other activists to have him rearrested without proper due diligence.
Michaelson criticised the actions of the activists involved, stating that while they have done admirable work in the past, they acted irresponsibly in this case. He stressed the importance of not joining or supporting a cause without understanding the full details of the situation, as it is neither noble nor fair.
“Your quest to uphold women’s rights should never breach any man’s rights,” Hon asserted, emphasising the legal principle that a person is innocent until proven guilty.
