Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is urging Abuja youths and other stakeholders to avoid participating in the nationwide protests scheduled for August 1 to 10, which are being organized in response to hunger and economic hardship.

During a ministerial meeting with youths from Abuja South Federal Constituency in Kwali Area Council on Sunday, Wike emphasized the need for peace and warned against the potential negative impacts of the protests.

He also plans to engage with youths and stakeholders in Bwari and Gwagwalada Area Councils in the coming days on the same issue.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that a similar engagement took place in the Abuja Municipal Area Council on Saturday. Wike’s interactions are aimed at informing participants about the drawbacks of the protest and why they should refrain from joining.

Wike praised traditional rulers and area council chairmen for their efforts in mobilizing youths for the discussion. He argued that the current administration, which has been in office for less than a year, should not be judged so quickly.

He highlighted achievements in education, health, and security, asserting that improvements in these areas should be acknowledged.

The Minister called for support and encouragement for security agencies, stating that recent efforts have made a positive impact on security in the FCT.

He stressed that fostering peace is more important than engaging in protests, which could disrupt the stability of the region.

Wike concluded by emphasizing that maintaining peace in the FCT is crucial and should be prioritized over participation in the planned protests.
