Five people sustained injuries in a Third Mainland Bridge accident involving a bus and SUV. LASTMA urges caution to prevent further incidents

 

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ive individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries on Tuesday following a collision involving a commercial bus and a Toyota Highlander on the Third Mainland Bridge near the University of Lagos Waterfront, heading towards Adeniji.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the accident caused a temporary disruption to traffic on one of Lagos’s busiest routes.

According to LASTMA, its officials and good Samaritans promptly intervened, rescuing the injured victims and ensuring they received medical attention without delay.

The agency revealed, “An accident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge at Unilag Waterfront inward Adeniji, involving a commercial bus and a Toyota Highlander. Five casualties were swiftly rescued by LASTMA officials and other good Samaritans.”

Efforts are ongoing to remove the affected vehicles and restore the normal flow of traffic on the busy bridge.

In the wake of the incident, LASTMA reiterated its call for motorists to prioritise safety. Drivers were urged to adhere to speed limits, conduct proper vehicle checks before starting their journeys, and cooperate with traffic officials to prevent avoidable accidents.

“Let’s always drive cautiously and maintain within the speed limit. Checking car conditions before heading out should also be a priority,” the agency emphasised.
