Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has instructed the EFCC to expedite the release of businesswoman Aisha Achimugu on the Commission’s bail terms

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has today, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to facilitate the release of businesswoman Aisha Achimugu upon the fulfillment of the Commission’s bail conditions.

The court issued this order after being informed that the EFCC had revoked a previous bail granted to Achimugu’s lawyer and subsequently issued new bail conditions.

During the court proceedings, an attempt by Achimugu’s counsel, Kehinde Oguwumiju, SAN, to seek a variation of the bail terms was met with opposition from the EFCC’s counsel, E.E Iheanacho, SAN, and was ultimately rejected by the court. Following the rejection, the application for variation was withdrawn.

Justice Ekwo, in a short ruling, said the Commission should expedite actions to ensure the processing of all bail conditions and directed all parties to report on compliance with the directive on May 2, 2025.

Aisha Achimugu is currently under investigation by the EFCC for alleged conspiracy, money laundering, obtaining under false pretense, corruption, and possession of properties suspected to have been acquired through unlawful means.
