The victims were buried the same day in accordance with Islamic rites.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmad Rufai, stated that the explosion was likely caused by an IED but refrained from naming any suspects.

“Yes, there was an explosion and six persons are confirmed dead. We are investigating the cause,” he said.

Local reports suggest that the blast may have been carried out by the Lakurawa terrorist group, which has been a growing menace in the region.

The group, described by villagers as mostly composed of foreign nationals, has been linked to previous attacks in Tangaza and neighbouring Gudu Local Government Area.

Garzali Raka, Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Chairman of Tangaza Local Government, also confirmed the burial of the victims.

“The community is grieving. The bodies have been buried, and there is fear everywhere,” he said.

Residents have raised urgent concerns over what they see as worsening insecurity in the area. “The Lakurawa terrorists are mostly foreigners and have continued to disturb the peace in several villages across both councils,” .

Fear has gripped the region, with displaced and traumatised residents calling on both federal and state governments to act swiftly. They are urging security agencies to stamp out the growing terrorist threat and restore calm.

“The people can no longer sleep with both eyes closed,” a local youth leader said. “We need serious intervention before this crisis spreads further.”

As tension remains high in the community, security forces are expected to step up surveillance and intelligence operations in Tangaza and Gudu LGAs in the coming days.
