Iyabo Ojo explains her support for Princess during Baba Ijesha’s rape case, revealing her own trauma and calling for entertainers to lead by example

Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has explained her decision to support comedienne Princess during the Baba Ijesha alleged rape case, revealing it was deeply rooted in her own personal trauma and belief in standing up for what is right.

Speaking on The Goldroom with Iyabo, the actress shared that her past experiences of being molested multiple times** made it impossible for her to remain silent.

“I really didn’t control my emotions then because I was outraged by what happened,” she said.

“I think it’s because I was also coming from that part, where I had gone through whatever she went through multiple times… I just felt like enough is enough. We need to start speaking out for the girl and boy child.”

Iyabo Ojo supports Princess not just as a fellow entertainer, but as someone who believes that public figures should serve as moral examples.

I just felt like enough is enough. We need to start speaking out for the girl and boy child.

She expressed disappointment in how some adults twisted the narrative and attacked the victim and Princess, saying it revealed how far society still has to go in protecting the vulnerable.

“I was taken aback when I saw adults manipulating the story and even coming for the child and Princess. That made me know we have a long way to go in Nigeria,” she said.

The actress further stressed the importance of accountability in the entertainment industry.

“When my fellow entertainers do wrong, I speak up,” she stated.

“We’re supposed to do right by our people. We are also evangelists because we’re preaching through our craft. We can’t say something is bad on screen and then do the same bad thing in real life.”
