ADC warns APC Chairman against abusing electoral experience for partisan gains, urging Professor Yilwatda to respect democratic ethics and institutional integrity

ADC Warns APC Chairman Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda to uphold electoral integrity and avoid leveraging his past as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to manipulate Nigeria’s democratic process in favour of the ruling party.

While congratulating Yilwatda on his appointment the fourth APC national chairman in just two years the African Democratic Congress (ADC) voiced cautious optimism, calling for a clear break from impunity, propaganda, and institutional overreach.

In a strongly worded statement signed by ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party stressed the weight of Yilwatda’s electoral background:

“It comes with a deep understanding of electoral ethics, neutrality, and public trust. We sincerely hope he will draw on this experience to promote the sanctity of our electoral processes, rather than using insider knowledge to game the system.”

The ADC also criticized the APC for holding its NEC meeting inside the State House, describing it as a “dangerous blurring of the line between party and state.”

“This decision underlines how far this government has strayed from foundational democratic norms,” the ADC noted.

The opposition party urged the new APC chairman to use his tenure as a moment to reset the party’s tone, temperament, and trajectory, encouraging inclusivity over dominance.

Finally, the ADC wished Yilwatda a longer and more honourable tenure than his predecessors, subtly highlighting APC’s leadership instability.
