Ajunwa, who made history as the first Nigerian to win Olympic gold with her performance in the women’s long jump, was promised a house by the Lagos State Government.
However, it wasn’t until a quarter of a century later that the promise was fulfilled.
She was eventually handed the keys to a 3-bedroom apartment, a gesture that, though delayed, recognized her contribution to Nigerian sports.
The delay had long been a point of public disappointment, highlighting how Nigerian athletes often struggle for recognition and support after their peak performances.
