Governor Adeleke’s absence triggers backlash from Osun APC as he travels to the US for Davido’s wedding without public notice or formal power transfer

Governor Adeleke’s absence from Osun State has ignited political tension as the All Progressives Congress (APC) accused him of abandoning his post without informing the public or officially delegating authority to his deputy.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Osun APC said Governor Ademola Adeleke has been out of the state for over two weeks, raising constitutional and ethical concerns.

“Who is running Osun State?” the party asked. “The governor left unannounced and without transparency. This is abnormal for a sitting governor.”

Reacting to the allegations, Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the governor is currently in the United States attending the wedding of his nephew, global music icon Davido (David Adeleke).

He dismissed the APC’s claims as political mischief, adding, “Governor Adeleke has not taken official vacation since assuming office. This is a brief private visit, and he remains in communication with his deputy, who is overseeing state matters.”

Rasheed even extended a sarcastic invitation: “The governor invites the APC to join the Adeleke family in celebrating Davido’s wedding — virtually, if they cannot attend in person.”

The APC’s core concern remains Adeleke’s alleged failure to formally transmit power to his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, as required by protocol when a governor is absent.

“Residents are asking who’s in charge. This silence is unacceptable in a democracy,” said APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi.

The party further claimed Adeleke’s exit followed a failed attempt to defect to the APC — a claim his office has not addressed.

This incident has rekindled debate about the need for public officials, particularly state governors, to maintain transparency even during personal trips.

While Adeleke’s supporters see the journey as a reasonable family obligation, critics say official protocol and public communication were lacking.
