US visa applicants in Nigeria must disclose all social media handles used in the last 5 years or risk denial and future ineligibility

US visa social media requirement is now being strictly enforced for Nigerian applicants, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria has reminded the public.

All individuals applying for non-immigrant visas must list every social media username or handle used in the past five years on the DS-160 application form.

According to the Mission, this disclosure is not optional. Failure to provide accurate or complete information could result in visa denial and future ineligibility for U.S. travel.

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial,” the Mission stated via its official platforms.

Applicants must include handles used on platforms like:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter (X)
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • LinkedIn
  • YouTube
  • Snapchat
  • Reddit
  • And any other social platforms used over the last five years.

The U.S. government uses the information to enhance national security, conduct background checks, and verify applicant identities.

False or incomplete information may be flagged as misrepresentation, which carries serious immigration consequences.

The public is encouraged to be truthful and transparent in all visa-related matters to ensure smoother processing.
