Nigerian passport fees have been increased by NIS effective Sept 1, 2025, with 32-page passports now ₦100k and 64-page ₦200k

Nigerian passport fees have been revised upward by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), with the new structure set to take effect on September 1, 2025.

In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, NIS Public Relations Officer ACI Akinsola Akinlabi explained that the changes apply only to applications processed within Nigeria.

Under the new rates, the 32-page passport with 5-year validity will cost ₦100,000, up from ₦50,000, while the 64-page passport with 10-year validity will cost ₦200,000, up from ₦100,000.

For Nigerians abroad, fees remain unchanged: \$150 for the 32-page, 5-year passport and \$230 for the 64-page, 10-year option.

The NIS said the upward review was necessary to maintain the quality, security features, and integrity of Nigerian passports, while improving efficiency in service delivery.

“In a bid to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Passport, the Nigeria Immigration Service hereby announces an upward review of Nigerian Standard Passport fees, effective from September 1, 2025,” the statement read.

Reassuring citizens, the Service emphasized its pledge to balance accessibility with quality: “The Service reiterates its commitment to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure passport services are accessible to all Nigerians.”

The announcement has sparked public debate, with many Nigerians weighing the cost implications against the need for stronger security and better service delivery.
