In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the approval during the 31st Executive Council meeting at Government House Annex, Kwankwasiyya City.

Yusuf asserted that his administration would not compromise on the teachings of Islam and Kano’s cultural heritage. He stated that the proposed bill seeks to prohibit same‑sex marriage as well as practices known locally as “Madugo” and “Liwadi,” which the government considers forbidden.

“Under no circumstance will we allow acts that contradict our religion and traditions to take root in Kano. This government is duty‑bound to protect the moral integrity of our society,” the governor declared.
