Anambra empowers 8,300 youths

Anambra empowers 8,300 youths with ₦3.5bn under 1Youth2Skills Plus to support entrepreneurship and job creation, says Commissioner Aghamba

Anambra empowers 8,300 youths in a landmark initiative to boost entrepreneurship and job creation, according to a statement from the state’s Ministry of Youth Development.

The programme, part of the second phase of the ‘1Youth2Skills Plus’ initiative, will see ₦3.5 billion disbursed to beneficiaries who have completed vocational and entrepreneurial training.

Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Aghamba, confirmed the development on Tuesday in Awka.

He noted that the beneficiaries will receive their financial empowerment packages at a ceremony scheduled for September 23 at the International Conference Centre, Awka.

“Governor Chukwuma Soludo will personally present the support packages and unveil new initiatives aimed at creating a new generation of millionaires and smart entrepreneurs in Anambra,” Aghamba said.

He recalled that the first batch of the programme empowered 5,000 youths with ₦2 billion, alongside mentorship and cooperative support, further reinforcing the administration’s youth-focused agenda.

This latest funding round represents a massive expansion of the scheme and reflects Soludo’s vision of positioning Anambra as a hub for innovation and enterprise.

“The goal is to build the next set of millionaires. This is not a handout; it’s a challenge to innovate, scale, and create jobs for others,” Aghamba added.

The 1Youth2Skills programme equips participants with practical skills in sectors such as agriculture, ICT, fashion, crafts, cake-making, and general services.

It aligns with Soludo’s broader ambition to drive sustainable development through grassroots economic empowerment.

In a related development, the Anambra government recently announced plans to construct a second airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North, less than four years after commissioning the Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport in Umueri.

This signals an intensified focus on infrastructure and connectivity.

The cumulative investment in youth and transport infrastructure underscores Soludo’s strategic focus on long-term prosperity, targeting job creation, innovation, and ease of doing business.
