Dangote Group worker reassignment

Dangote Group worker reassignment begins after PENGASSAN dispute, ensuring staff keep salaries and preventing further strike action at the refinery

The Federal Government confirmed that workers previously removed from the refinery will be reassigned to other Dangote companies without loss of pay, after both parties reached a compromise.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, said: “After reviewing the disengagement process, it was agreed that the management of Dangote Group should begin reassigning the workers immediately.

No worker will be punished for their role in the dispute between Dangote and PENGASSAN.”

The minister added that PENGASSAN had agreed to call off its strike following the agreement and reminded both management and staff that union membership remains a fundamental right under Nigerian law.

The dispute originated when PENGASSAN accused the refinery management of unfairly transferring and dismissing union members, and replacing some Nigerians with foreign workers.

The union argued that these actions violated labour laws and reduced job opportunities for locals.

The refinery countered that the workforce changes were operationally necessary and unrelated to union activities.

Tensions escalated when PENGASSAN halted the supply of gas and crude oil to the refinery, raising fears over Nigeria’s energy security.

The Federal Government intervened, warning that the standoff could negatively impact the economy and energy supply, before mediating an agreement that has now restored stability.
