Tinubu Independence Speech outlines reforms, economic recovery, and renewed hope as Nigeria marks 65 years of nationhood with bold commitments
Tinubu independence speech marked a moment of reflection, resilience, and reform as Nigeria celebrated its 65th anniversary of independence on 1 October 2025.

Addressing the nation in a televised broadcast, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered a bold and forward-looking message, reassuring citizens that Nigeria is turning the corner after years of economic stagnation and security threats.
“The worst is over,” Tinubu declared, highlighting his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, stabilisation of the naira, and record-breaking revenue from non-oil sources.
The President acknowledged the current hardship faced by many Nigerians but affirmed that the difficult decisions were necessary to set the nation on a path of long-term sustainability.
He stated:
“We chose the path of reform. We chose the path of tomorrow over the comfort of today.”
According to the Tinubu Independence Speech, the second quarter of 2025 saw the fastest GDP growth in four years at 4.23%. Inflation dropped to its lowest level since 2022, and trade surpluses have continued for five consecutive quarters, driven by a surge in non-oil exports.
The President praised young Nigerians as the country’s greatest assets and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting them through initiatives like NELFUND and YouthCred, which offer access to education loans and consumer credit.
On national security, Tinubu paid tribute to the armed forces, asserting that peace is steadily returning to troubled regions.
“We see their victories in their blood and sweat,” he said, as he outlined efforts to restore safety and confidence across the nation.
In the Tinubu Independence Speech, he also detailed ambitious infrastructure investments, including expanded rail projects, expressways, and digital infrastructure.
The Federal Executive Council, he noted, has approved a $3 billion injection into the long-awaited Eastern Rail Project.
Tinubu closed his address with a call to action:
“Let us be a nation of producers, not just consumers. Let us farm our land and build our industries. Let us believe, once more, in the boundless potential of our great nation.”
