Dangote truck accident Ogun

Dangote truck accident Ogun: Five people killed after a Dangote Cement truck lost its brakes and rammed into a tricycle on the Papalanto–Ilaro Road

A Dangote truck accident Ogun claimed five lives on Friday night after a cement truck belonging to Dangote Cement lost its brakes and rammed into a tricycle at the Alapoka axis of the Papalanto–Ilaro Road in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The tragic crash occurred at around 8:30 p.m., according to the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi.

He confirmed that all five occupants of the tricycle died instantly when the unregistered vehicle was crushed by the Dangote truck, which bore the number plate GRZ 767 XA.

Akinbiyi explained that the truck driver was unaware of the collision until the vehicle’s tyre completely flattened the tricycle and its passengers.

“According to an eyewitness, the truck lost its brakes and rammed into the tricycle. Unfortunately, the driver didn’t realise what had happened until the tricycle was completely crushed,” he said.

The TRACE Acting Head, Adedayo Omonayajo, and the Ilaro Divisional TRACE Commander, Salako Idowu, led a rescue team to the scene.

However, angry residents reportedly attempted to attack the officials, forcing the intervention of the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies to restore calm.

“The presumed dead were later taken to the morgue by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials,” Akinbiyi added.

This latest Dangote truck accident adds to a series of fatal crashes involving vehicles from the Dangote Group.

In November 2024, a multiple-crash incident in Lagos and Ogun involving a Dangote truck caused four deaths and seven injuries after another case of brake failure.

Similarly, in June 2021, a Dangote truck in Ogun crushed a commercial motorbike rider and passenger, sparking a mob attack that resulted in the truck being set ablaze.

Public outrage has continued to trail the company’s heavy-duty fleet operations, with many Nigerians calling for stricter safety and maintenance regulations to prevent further tragedies.
