E1 Lagos Grand Prix victory sees Team Brazil by Claure Group claim a historic win in Africa’s debut all-electric race boat event

E1 Lagos Grand Prix victory headlines a landmark weekend for motorsport in Africa, as Team Brazil by Claure Group made history by winning the first-ever all-electric race boat event on the continent.

Racing on the vibrant Lagos Lagoon, Team Brazil fended off stiff competition from Team Blue Rising, owned by cricket star Virat Kohli, and Team Drogba Global Africa, led by football legend Didier Drogba, to take the top spot on the podium.

The win followed a dramatic weather delay caused by a tropical storm, which tested both skill and strategy.

Pilots Timmy Hansen, who was named PIF Pilot of the Race, and Ieva Millere-Hagin mastered the challenging conditions, building on their pole position from Saturday’s qualifying session.

Their triumph has now intensified the fight for the Champions of the Water title, with the season finale in Miami promising a thrilling climax.

Thousands of fans gathered along the waterfront, turning the event into a celebration of sport, sustainability, and technology.

The electric race drew international attention, marking Lagos as a global motorsport destination alongside Monaco, Doha, and Dubrovnik.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the event as more than a race, calling it a “demonstration of innovation, environmental responsibility, and Lagos’ readiness for future-focused development.”

E1 CEO Rodi Basso echoed the excitement, stating: “We made history in Lagos today. It’s a landmark moment for our Championship and for Africa—showing the continent’s hunger for sustainable motorsport.”

The E1 Lagos Grand Prix victory is not just a sporting milestone but a symbol of Africa’s emerging role in shaping clean energy and marine innovation.
