China urges respect for Nigeria in response to recent US threats of military action, reaffirming its support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning praised Nigeria for pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions.
Mao Ning said, “As Nigeria’s strategic partner, China opposes any attempt by foreign powers to use religion or human rights as a pretext to meddle in another country’s internal affairs or impose sanctions and military threats.”
The statement comes after the United States warned of possible military intervention in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
Reports indicate that President Donald Trump threatened to deploy forces if what he described as “genocide” against Christians is not halted.
China’s response signals its intention to back Nigeria on the international stage while highlighting its longstanding position against foreign interference in domestic affairs.
