Osun NNPP primary election holds December 13, 2025, as Chairman Tosin Odeyemi vows the party will spring surprises in the 2026 governorship poll

The Osun NNPP primary election has been officially fixed for December 13, 2025, as the party intensifies preparations for the 2026 governorship race.

In a statement signed by the Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Mr Tosin Odeyemi, and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Friday, the party confirmed that all arrangements have been concluded for what it described as a credible and transparent exercise.

Odeyemi said the NNPP was not merely contesting for participation’s sake but was determined to emerge victorious in the next governorship election. He disclosed that at least four aspirants had already indicated interest, while more party members were signalling readiness to join the race.

“The 2026 gubernatorial election will be a different ball game in Osun,” Odeyemi declared confidently. “We are set to spring surprises. Our party is a new bride in the state, gaining from the cracks within both the PDP and APC. The people now see the NNPP as a true third force.”

He added that the Osun NNPP primary election would serve as a rallying point for party loyalists across the state, noting that the growing enthusiasm among members was a clear sign of public support.

Odeyemi also urged members to keep engaging residents on the party’s programmes designed to ameliorate the current economic hardship facing many Nigerians.

As Osun’s political atmosphere heats up ahead of the August 8, 2026, governorship poll, other major parties have also scheduled their primaries for December. The APC, for instance, will hold its own primary on the same day, while the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been cleared by the PDP to seek re-election.

With the stage now set, analysts predict that the Osun NNPP primary election could mark a turning point for the relatively young party, which hopes to transform its momentum into an electoral breakthrough next year.
