Soludo presents an ambitious N757bn 2026 budget with 79% capital spending, pledging prudent use of funds and accelerated development

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State on Tuesday presented an ambitious Soludo 2026 budget totalling N757.88 billion to the state House of Assembly, outlining an expanded financial plan aimed at accelerating his administration’s transformative agenda.

Presenting the proposal, tagged Changing Gears 3.0: Solution Continues, Governor Soludo said the financial blueprint reflects a renewed push to intensify infrastructure delivery and economic reforms across the state.

He explained that the budget comprises N595.3 billion in capital expenditure, representing 79 per cent of the total outlay. Recurrent spending was pegged at N161.6 billion, accounting for 21 per cent.

The governor disclosed a projected deficit of N225.7 billion, noting that it would be funded through a blend of public–private partnerships, concessions, improved internally generated revenue and support from financial institutions.

He stressed that the state would not engage in borrowing for consumption.

“This proposed 2026 budget of N757,884,487,705 represents a 24.1 per cent increase compared to the 2025 budget of N606.99 billion,” Soludo said.

“We recorded over 60 per cent budget performance in 2025. Despite it being an election year, we remained focused and in execution mode.”

He described the fiscal plan as one designed to drive growth in every sector while maintaining responsible financial stewardship.

He added that the objective remains to build a prosperous and liveable smart homeland.

“I assure you that every kobo will be prudently utilised to maximise value for the people of Anambra,” the governor said.

Receiving the budget, Speaker of the House Somtochukwu Udeze commended the governor for what he called the massive transformation projects across the state.

He pledged swift and thorough consideration of the proposal.
