Security was heightened around the Assembly complex, with officers from the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps stationed at key entry points.
The session, presided over by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, was attended by members of the state executive council, local government officials, traditional rulers, and other invited guests.
Sanwo-Olu began his presentation, titled “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” at approximately 1:25 p.m., stressing that the proposal was designed to build a Lagos that benefits all residents.
“Our mission remains clear, to eradicate poverty and build a Lagos that works for all,” the governor said, adding that the budget rests on four strategic pillars: a human-centred approach, modern infrastructure, a thriving economy, and good governance.
If approved, the N4.237 trillion proposal would mark a significant expansion in Lagos’ annual spending plan, rising from N1.1 trillion in 2021 to over N4 trillion in 2026 — an increase of N3.074 trillion under Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
The state’s budget growth under his leadership includes N1.75 trillion in 2022, N1.76 trillion in 2023, N2.26 trillion in 2024, and a N3.366 trillion allocation in 2025.
Sanwo-Olu said the 2026 proposal builds on ongoing development efforts and reflects the state government’s commitment to completing existing projects.
