Adebayo Adedamola wins Osun PDP 2026 governorship ticket

Adebayo Adedamola wins the Osun PDP 2026 governorship primary with 919 votes as Governor Adeleke exits the party

Adebayo Adedamola on Tuesday emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun election. He secured 919 votes out of the 957 cast in the primary held in Osogbo.

Chairman of the primary committee, Humphrey Abba, declared the result.

He announced 20 void votes and confirmed that one aspirant had withdrawn. He said Adedamola received all valid votes and stood elected.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s name remained on the ballot despite his resignation from the PDP. Delegates were warned that votes cast for him would be wasted.

The secretary of the committee, Sunday Solarin, opened voting shortly after accreditation ended at 11:35 a.m.

He said only Adeleke and Adedamola were on the ballot and confirmed Adeleke’s resignation.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission observed the process.

Representatives from the PDP national headquarters also attended. Security operatives from the DSS, police, and NSCDC secured the venue.

Proceedings began at 11:07 a.m. as delegates checked their names and filed in to vote.

Adeleke’s resignation letter, dated 4 November 2025, surfaced earlier on Tuesday.

He cited crises within the PDP national leadership as the reason for his exit.

He thanked the party for the platform that enabled his elections as senator and governor.

His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the development.

Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi said on Monday that party disputes had delayed the primary originally scheduled for 2 December.

He noted that Adeleke’s interest could change if the crises ended and INEC validated the outcome.
