Rotary Africa Two-Zone expansion marks a historic milestone, recognising growth, impact, and maturity of clubs across the continent

Rotary International has announced that following its periodic rezoning process, Rotary in Africa (Zone 22) will be reconfigured into two separate Zones, 22 and 23.

The historic decision reflects the continued growth, impact, and organisational maturity of Rotary across the African continent.

Each Rotary year, the International Board of Directors adjusts zones based on district creations, mergers, and requests to change zones.

In addition, a comprehensive review is conducted at least every eight years to ensure Rotary’s 34 zones maintain an approximately equal number of Rotarians worldwide.

Reacting to the announcement, Rotary International Director Daniel Tanase praised African Rotarians for their dedication.

“This achievement belongs entirely to our exceptional Rotarian brothers and sisters from across Africa. I am grateful that the Steering Committee and the Board of Directors made this historic decision,” Tanase said.

Rotary Africa’s leadership extended appreciation to the Rezoning Committee, RI President-elect Yinka Babalola, and the RI Board of Directors.

Director-Elect Emmanuel described the moment as joyous, adding, “It is such a happy moment that the Board has approved the two zones request presented by Africa.”

Rotary Foundation Trustee Ijeoma Pearl Okoro congratulated the leadership team, recognising the achievement as a realisation of long-held ambitions.

Additional congratulations were received from senior Rotary leaders, including Trustee Geeta Manek, and Past RI Directors Patrick Chisanga and Sam Okudzeto.

PRID Patrick Chisanga noted, “From our early days advocating for two separate zones for Africa, we have now achieved a milestone that recognises both growth and aspirations.”

The Zone Administration also acknowledged the contributions of Rotarians, Rotaractors, clubs, and districts who diligently updated strategic plans, goals, and reports in Rotary Club Central over the past year.

Special recognition was given to regional coordinators, zone officers, and the Three-Year Goals Strategic Team for their collective efforts.
